Chester County Day 2024

Our 83rd Tour | Thankful for You

by Michael Pilligalli

The autumnal leaves were dancing around the trees and up and down the streets.  The chrysanthemums were in full bloom and bursting with color. The pumpkins and gourds were loving not being carved up yet and the weather…. What was not to like about that beautiful day and the weather.  The tour of open homes and other properties was special, and the days of long lines seemed to vanish. The old guard who worked on this day in its beginning were nodding in approval that the first Saturday in October is an ideal time to host an Historic House tour.  And, how right they were!

“The Day” as it is known, was an absolute delight for all in attendance.  Ticket sales were at a max and the day goers seemed to enjoy every place they visited and left each site with ideas and longings of what they could do to their abodes when they got home. The weather was so perfect that the era of elegant tailgaters were present again and I even saw a silver ice bucket and candlestick at one gathering in a parking field.   It seemed that all the background plans for a great tour that took place for months and months before were all successfully met and the incentive to carry on for many more tours was very apparent.  “The Day” continues to work on making next year’s tour just as good as the last one and plans for 2025 have already started.

The committee and its many volunteers want to thank the homeowners for sharing their homes with “The Day” goers.  Thanks also go out to the public sites that were a special part of this year’s tour.  A special thanks to the guests who have continued to support the tour and the Chester County Hospital for these past 83 tours and hope that all will continue to make it the longest running house tour in the USA.

Our 84th Chester County Day Tour | October 4, 2025
